# Filter and export customers

> Download your customer data, and use filters to create segments of your customer base.

Exporting customer data from Smile can be done by navigating to the **[Customers](https://app.smile.io/customers)** section of Smile Admin. By default, Smile exports all customers in the system, but you can also filter and sort your customer data within Smile to export a specific segment.

## Export a customer list as a PDF

To export a customer list as a PDF:

1. In Smile Admin, navigate to **[Customers](https://app.smile.io/customers)**.
2. Click the **Filter and export** button.
3. Click **Export as PDF.**

## Export a customer list as a data file

To export a customer list as a data file:

1. In Smile Admin, navigate to **[Customers](https://app.smile.io/customers)**.
2. Click the **Filter and export** button.
3. Scroll to the right of the **Customers** table, hover your mouse to the right and click the three dots.
4. Click **Download results**.
5. Select the file type and format type you'd like to export.
6. Click **Download**.

## Create customer segments by filtering

To filter your customer data to create segments:

1. In Smile Admin, navigate to **[Customers](https://app.smile.io/customers)**.
2. Click the **Filter and export** button.
3. Use the drop-down filters at the top of the **Customers** table to segment your data.
4. Click **Add filter**.
5. Export your data as [a PDF](#introduction) or [a data file](#export-a-customer-list-as-a-data-file).

  **Tip:** You can also export customer activity data from your [points](https://app.smile.io/reward-programs/points/activity), [referral](https://app.smile.io/reward-programs/referrals/activity), and [VIP](https://app.smile.io/reward-programs/vip/activity) programs using the **Export** button on each program's **Activity** page.
