# Configure reward restrictions

> Restrict rewards by minimum purchase amount or product collection.

Adding restrictions to your rewards lets you define how they can be used. You can require a minimum spend or limit a reward to a specific product collection.

## Require a minimum purchase amount

Adding a minimum purchase amount ensures that a customer must spend at least this amount to apply the reward.

A minimum purchase restriction can only be added to **Amount discount**, **Percentage off,** and **Free product** rewards.

To add a minimum purchase requirement:

1. In Smile Admin, navigate to **Program** > [**Points**](https://app.smile.io/reward-programs/points).
2. In the **Minimum requirement** card, select **Minimum purchase amount**.
3. Enter the minimum dollar value.
4. Click **Save**.

  **Note:** When you add a minimum purchase amount to a **Free product** reward, the minimum spend applies **only to the price of the product being discounted**, not to the customer's total cart value.

## Limit to a specific collection

To restrict a reward to certain products, you can limit it to specific collections in your store.

  **Important:** This feature is only available for merchants on **Shopify**. The collection you want to select must already [exist in Shopify](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/collections) before following the steps below.

To add a collection restriction to a reward:

1. In Smile Admin, navigate to **Program** > [**Points**](https://app.smile.io/reward-programs/points).
2. In the **Ways to redeem** card, find the reward you want to modify, and click **Edit**.
3. In the **Applies to** card, select **Specific collection**.
4. Use the dropdown to select the collection you'd like to restrict the reward to.
5. Click **Save**.

  **Note:** A collection restriction can only be added to **Amount discount** and **Percentage off** rewards.
