# Find a customer

> Search for a customer in Smile's interface using their name or email.

Smile has multiple ways to search for customers and find the customer you're looking for. Look up customers by first name, last name, full name, or email to quickly open their profile and view their loyalty program information.

<Note>
  **Can’t find the search bar?** Customer search is available on the **Customers** page. If you're looking for the search bar on the homepage, go to **Customers** in Smile Admin to search for a customer.
</Note>

## Search for a customer

1. From Smile Admin, go to the [**Customers**](https://app.smile.io/customers) page.
2. Click the **search icon** (🔍) in the top-right corner.
3. Enter your search term.
4. Results will appear below the search bar automatically when you stop typing.

You can search using:

**Customer name**

* First name (e.g. *Jennifer*)
* Last name (e.g. *Martins*)
* Full name (e.g. *Jennifer Martins*)
* The beginning of a name (e.g. *Jenn* or *Mart*)

**Customer email**

* Full email (e.g. [*mike@website.com*](mailto:mike@website.com))
* The beginning of an email (e.g. *mike@*)

## What to expect

When searching for a customer, results are returned based on whether your search term matches the **start** of the customer’s first name, last name, full name, or email. Search does not match the middle or end of a name or email, and is not case sensitive.

For example, if you enter `Jo` as your search term...

* It **will match**:
  * A customer whose email is `joe@website.com`
  * A customer whose email is `joe123@website.com`
  * A customer whose name is `Joseph Andrews`
  * A customer whose name is `Jo Jeffries`
  * A customer whose name is `Beth Jordan`
* It **will not match**:
  * A customer whose email is `fred@jo.com`
  * A customer whose email is `photojournalist@website.com`
  * A customer whose name is `Ruth Mojo`

<Tip>
  **Tip:** If your search doesn’t return the customer you expect or returns too many results, try searching using the customer’s full name or full email address (e.g. search `Joana` instead of just `Jo`).
