# Redeem points at cart

> Let customers redeem their points for rewards directly in the cart.

Add points redemption to your cart drawer and cart page so customers can redeem points and apply rewards while shopping.

> **Feature availability:** Redeem points at cart is available on the **Standard, Growth, Plus,** and **Enterprise** plans for merchants on **Shopify**.

## Add redeem points at cart

1. From **Smile Admin**, navigate to [**On-site content**](https://admin.shopify.com/apps/smile-io/on-site).
2. In the **Redeem points at cart** section, click **Set up**.
3. Turn on **Redeem points at cart**.
4. In the **Smile app embed** section, make sure the status is **Enabled**. If it shows **Setup needed**, click **Go to Theme editor** and enable the app embed.

Smile automatically adds the rewards section to your cart drawer and cart page. No coding is required.

## Turn off redeem points at cart

1. From **Smile Admin**, navigate to [**On-site content**](https://admin.shopify.com/apps/smile-io/on-site).
2. In the **Redeem points at cart** section, click **Set up**.
3. Turn off **Redeem points at cart**.

The rewards section is removed from your cart drawer and cart page. Rewards customers have already redeemed stay in their account and can still be used.

## How it works

* **Customer login:** Customers must be logged in to redeem points. Logged-out customers can see available rewards and are prompted to log in or create an account.
* **Viewing rewards**: Customers open the rewards section in their cart drawer or cart page to see available rewards.
* **Available rewards:** Only fixed amount, percentage, free shipping, and free product rewards are supported for redemption in the cart.
* **Redeeming points:** Customers click **Select** next to a reward. For incremental rewards, they first use the points slider to choose how many points to spend.
* **Applying rewards:** The discount code is automatically applied to the cart. For free product rewards, the product is also added to the cart if it isn't already there.
* **Points deduction:** Points are deducted as soon as a customer redeems a reward, even if they haven't completed checkout. If the discount code can't be applied to the cart, it can still be used on another eligible order.

The rewards section is hidden when your points program is turned off or when a logged-in customer is excluded from your loyalty program.

## Placement and customization

Smile automatically places the rewards section in your cart drawer and cart page. Its placement can't be customized.

The text in the rewards section can't be customized. It's automatically translated to match your store's language. Your points name and reward names come from your Smile program settings.

## Troubleshooting

Because Shopify themes vary, the rewards section may appear in an unexpected location or look different than expected. If Smile can't find a suitable location in your theme, the section won't appear and no error message is displayed.
