# Send a test customer email in Smile Admin

> Preview how your loyalty emails appear in a real inbox.

You can send a test version of any customer email to see how it appears to your customers.

## Send a test email

1. From **Smile Admin**, go to **Settings > [Customer emails](https://app.smile.io/settings/customer-notifications)**.
2. Select the email you want to test, then click **Edit**.
3. Click **Send test email**.
4. Review the recipient email address. Test emails can only be sent to the email address associated with your Smile account.
5. Click **Send test**.

## What to expect in a test email

* **Dynamic variables appear as placeholders**\
  Fields like `{{customer.first_name}}` or `{{reward_fulfillment.name}}` will not populate with real data in test emails.
* **Unsubscribe link is not active**\
  The unsubscribe link in test emails is not functional.
* **Your branding is applied**\
  Your store’s logo, sender name, and branding display as configured.

## Tips

* **Check your actual inbox**\
  Email clients (e.g. Gmail or Outlook) can render emails differently. Sending a test email is the best way to see the final result.
* **Use preview for quick checks**\
  You can use the in-app preview under **Settings > Branding > [Email](https://app.smile.io/settings/branding/email)** to quickly review visual updates before sending a test.
* **One recipient at a time**\
  Test emails can only be sent to one address per send.
