What are Nudges?
Nudges are powerful, on-site reminders that encourage customers to join your program, redeem their points for a reward or use a recent reward towards their purchase.
It’s easy for customers to forget about the exclusive perks and rewards that your program offers. Nudges were designed to keep your program top of mind, making it easier for customers to join and engage with your program.
How Nudges work
There are three Nudges available in your Smile Admin:
- Points spending
- Reward usage
- Account creation
A points spending Nudge is shown to a logged in program member when they are on your cart page and have enough points to purchase a reward that could be applied to their purchase.
These reminders are an easy way to ensure customers don’t forget about points they’ve earned that can be cashed in for a reward before they complete the order they’re currently considering.
Example: You offer a free product reward and a $5 off coupon reward that both cost 500 points to purchase. If your program member has a balance of at least 500 points, they’ll be given the option to spend their points on one of these rewards.
If your member uses their points toward a reward and you have email notifications enabled, they'll also receive an email reminder that includes their reward code.
📝 Pro Tip:
If you’ve branded your points currency, your points spending Nudge will adopt your currency name to keep your program experience consistent.
A reward usage Nudge is shown to a logged in program member when they are on your cart page and they’ve earned a reward that could be applied to their purchase. If a program member has multiple rewards, they’ll be shown their most recent reward.
These reminders are a great way to boost reward redemption. Making it easier for your members to use their rewards will give them every reason to re-engage in the future.
Example: If a program member recently crossed a VIP tier threshold and they earned a new reward when they entered that tier, they’ll be given the option to use that reward.
An account creation Nudge is shown to new shoppers the first time they visit your site, on the first page that they visit.
These reminders are a great way to make it easier for new shoppers to discover your rewards program and encourage them to join. By keeping your reward program top of mind for new shoppers, you'll make it easy for them to learn about the exclusive perks and rewards they'll gain access to when they join.
📝 Pro Tip:
Nudges will adopt your Smile UI color, theme, icons, shapes, and placement settings from your Display to offer a consistent experience for your program members.
How to enable or disable a Nudge
Nudges can be enabled or disabled in your Display section. You will need to enable a Nudge before it will appear on your site.
Select the Nudge you’d like to add and then click “Enable”. The message and action that your customers will see are shown in the preview area on the right.
To disable a Nudge, select the Nudge you’d like to disable and click “Disable”.
If you’ve enabled both Nudges, only the reward usage Nudge will be shown to members that would meet visibility criteria for both.
- You will need to have a cart page in order to use Nudges. If you use a cart slider, Nudges will not appear.
- Gift card rewards will not appear in a Nudge.
- Store credit rewards will not appear in a Nudge.
- You need to have fixed amount coupon codes to use Nudges, variable rewards will not appear in a Nudge.
