Link discount codes to customer accounts

You can link a discount code to the customer who redeems it to ensure every reward is used by the correct person. This adds transparency and accountability to your loyalty program, helping prevent code sharing and keeping reward redemptions accurate. In this article, you’ll learn how to link discount codes to customers in Smile.

How linked discount codes work


By default, discount codes aren’t linked to a specific customer account. You can choose to enable this setting for eligible rewards, allowing Smile to associate each generated code with the customer who redeems it.

When this setting is enabled, Smile automatically links the discount code to the customer’s account upon redemption. Once linked, only that customer can use the code at checkout.

How to link discount codes


Use Customer eligibility settings to limit an eligible reward’s discount code so it can only be used on the account of the customer who redeems that reward. Each reward must be edited individually to link it.

To update customer eligibility:

  1. In Smile Admin, go to Points > Rewards.

  2. Select the reward you would like to edit.

  3. In the Customer eligibility card, click Discount can only be used on recipients account.

  4. Click Save.

ℹ️ Note: Linked discount codes are currently available for Points Program and VIP Entry rewards. Linking discount codes is not yet supported for Referral rewards.

Customer messaging


Customers will see information about linked discount codes in the reward conditions when redeeming their points and in the email they receive with their code.
