Free trials for paid plans

Start a 14-day free trial of a paid plan.

A free trial lets you explore a paid plan before committing to a subscription. If you’re on the Free plan and use Shopify billing, you can start a 14-day free trial of a paid plan directly from the pricing page.

During your trial, you get full access to the features included in that plan. You won’t be charged during the 14-day trial period.

Feature availability:

✅ 14-day free trials are available on the Essential, Standard, and Growth plans for merchants using Shopify billing.

Start a free trial


You can start a free trial from the pricing page in Smile Admin.

To start your trial:

  1. From Smile Admin, go to Settings > Billing > Pricing Plans.

  2. On an eligible plan, click Start 14-day trial.

  3. In the confirmation modal, review the plan details, including pricing and trial terms.

  4. Click Start free trial.

  5. Approve the subscription in Shopify to begin your trial.

Once approved:

  • You’ll have full access to all features included in the selected plan.

  • Your Billing page will show your trial status and the number of days remaining.

  • You won’t be charged during the trial period.

💡 Important: Each account can start one free trial. After your trial ends or if you cancel it, you won’t be able to start another.

What happens when your trial ends


Your trial lasts 14 days. On day 14:

  • Your subscription automatically converts to a paid plan.

  • Your paid Smile subscription begins, and you’ll be billed through Shopify at the plan’s regular price.

  • No action is required to continue on the paid plan.

ℹ️ Note: If you switch to a different paid plan during your trial, billing for the new plan starts immediately.

Cancel a free trial


You can cancel your trial at any time before it ends.

To cancel your trial:

  1. From Smile Admin, go to Settings > Billing.

  2. Click Cancel trial.

  3. In the confirmation modal, review the changes to your plan.

  4. Click Cancel free trial to confirm.

When you cancel:

  • Your access to paid features ends immediately.

  • Your account returns to the Free plan right away.

  • You are not charged.

💡 Important: Canceling your trial ends access to paid features immediately.

Frequently asked questions


Will I be charged during my free trial?

No. You receive full access to the selected plan for 14 days at no cost.

Can I switch plans during my trial?

Yes. You can switch to a different paid plan at any time. If you switch plans, your trial ends and billing for the new plan starts immediately.

Can I start another free trial?

Each account is eligible for one free trial. Once your trial ends or is canceled, you won’t be able to start another.

Why don’t I see the free trial option?

You may not see the option if:

  • You’re already on a paid plan.

  • You’ve already used your free trial.

  • You use Stripe billing instead of Shopify billing.

  • You’re currently on an active trial.

Are all plans eligible for a free trial?

Free trials are available on the Essential, Standard, and Growth plans. Plus and Enterprise plans do not offer self-serve free trials.

What if I qualify for a Shopify program trial?

If you qualify for a Shopify program trial (for example, a 90-day Shopify trial), that offer will apply instead of the 14-day free trial.
