Types of pricing plans
Smile offers two types of pricing plans:
Plans with a fixed order limit: Free, Essential, and Standard
Plans with dynamic usage-based pricing: Growth, Plus, and Enterprise
Plans with an order limit have a specific cap on the number of orders your store can process before you need to upgrade to a new plan, while usage-based pricing plans have no fixed cap and are billed based on your order volume in a given month.
All accounts start on the Free plan. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time to the plan that best fits your business.
Learn more about each plan and its included features by visiting our pricing page.
ℹ️ Note: Pricing and plan availability reflect current plans. Some existing merchants may be on legacy plans with different terms.
Understand billing cycles & billing methods
Smile's billing cycles vary depending on the billing method you use. Here's how each works:
Shopify billing: When using Smile on a Shopify store, billing happens via Shopify. Any subscription or usage-based charges are included in your Shopify invoice. These charges are consolidated, meaning you'll see them alongside your regular Shopify subscription billing.
Stripe billing: If you are billed directly by Smile through Stripe, your billing cycle is determined based on the date you subscribed.
If your account is billed by manual invoice, please contact our team with any billing questions.
Change your plan
You can change your plan at any time. To make changes:
1. From Smile Admin, go to Settings > Billing.
2. Click Change Plan.
3. Choose your new plan.
Once confirmed, changes take effect immediately.
If a plan appears greyed out and cannot be selected, your store may currently exceed that plan’s order limit. If you’re unsure which plan is the best fit, please reach out to our team.
To move to the Free plan, use Cancel Plan instead of Change Plan.
If you’re currently on a 14-day free trial of a paid plan and want to cancel it, see: Cancel a free trial.
Move to Free or cancel your paid plan
If you want to move to the Free plan or cancel your paid subscription, follow these steps:
1. From Smile Admin, go to Settings > Billing.
2. Click Cancel Plan.
3. Follow the prompts to confirm your cancellation.
Cancelling your paid plan moves your account to the Free plan and does not uninstall Smile or delete your data.
ℹ️ Note: The Free plan has a limit of 200 monthly orders. If you plan to keep using Smile on the Free plan, keep this limit in mind when deciding which plan and features are the best fit for your store.
Update your billing information
Keeping your billing information up to date ensures uninterrupted access to your Smile account. How you update your billing details depends on your billing method.
Here's how each works:
Shopify Billing: If you pay for Smile through Shopify, you can update your billing information directly in Shopify.
Stripe Billing: If your credit card is billed directly by Smile through Stripe, you can update your billing information in Smile Admin. Go to Settings > Billing, click Update, and follow the instructions provided.
What happens to your data when you cancel or uninstall
Cancelling your paid plan does not delete your data. Your loyalty program data stays in your account as long as Smile remains installed on your store.
If you uninstall Smile, your data is automatically deleted within 48 hours. This includes points balances, referral data, VIP tier history, customer activity, and all program settings.
If you reinstall Smile within the 48-hour window, your account and data will be restored.
If you reinstall Smile after the 48-hour window, your previous data will be permanently deleted and cannot be restored or reinstated — whether you reinstall Smile or create a new account in the future.
