Award points for clicking a link

Create flexible ways for customers to earn points—no code required.

Updated over a week ago

With the Click a link action, you can award points when customers click a specific link or button. This gives you more flexibility to reward engagement beyond traditional earning actions, without requiring custom code.

Feature availability:

✅ The Click a link earning action is available on Essential, Standard, Growth, Plus, and Enterprise plans.

What is the Click a link action?

The Click a link action lets you reward customers for taking a specific engagement action in your loyalty program, such as subscribing to a newsletter or booking an appointment.

Customers earn points by interacting with a link that represents the action you want to encourage. This makes it a flexible way to reward engagement both on and off your site, without requiring custom code or integrations.

This action works similarly to social earning actions, but offers greater flexibility. You control what action is promoted, where the link goes, how it appears, and how often customers can earn points.

How to create a Click a link action

To add a new earning action for clicking a link:

  1. From Smile Admin, go to Program > Points

  2. Click Add ways to earn.

  3. Select Click a link.

  4. Configure the action settings:

    • Enter the Activity Name

    • Enter the Call to action and URL

    • Set the Points awarded

    • Set how often customers can earn points

    • Add a custom icon (optional)

  5. Click Save.

Once saved, the action appears in your loyalty program and is available to customers.

Examples of actions you can reward

Use the Click a link action to reward engagement for actions such as:

  • Subscribing to a newsletter.

  • Booking a class or appointment.

  • Leaving a Google review or a review on another platform.

  • Subscribing to a YouTube channel.

  • Creating a wishlist.

  • Completing a customer profile.

How points are awarded

Points are awarded when customers interact with the link. The Click a link action doesn’t confirm whether the customer completes the action on the destination page, so it works best for low-friction engagement.

To use this action effectively, consider:

  • Which actions you want to reward.

  • How many points make sense for each action.

  • How often customers should be able to earn points.

If you need confirmation that a customer completed an action after clicking the link, a code-based custom activity may be a better fit, depending on your plan.
