Social media points encourage customers to like, follow and share your brand on social media. Customers click links through the Smile panel to engage with your social channels and earn points.

βœ… Tip: If you are looking to setup or edit social media actions as a way to earn, you can follow the steps in our guide on configuring ways to earn points.

How customers earn points for social media actions

Smile automatically awards points to customers when they click to engage with your social channels in the Smile panel.

Smile awards for the initial click as these social channels (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and X) don't allow third-party programs like Smile to pull information from their websites. This means it isn’t possible to follow these actions outside of your Smile program, and award after the action is complete.

Recommendations for awarding for social media actions

Social media points work on the honor system with your customers, and it is recommended that the points you award for these actions align with your goals and objectives and account for your store margins.

βœ… Tip: For Share social media earning actions you have the option to limit how often a customer can earn points for these actions. To learn more about how earning limits work and how to set them up, read our guide on configuring earning action limits.

ℹ️ Note: For the Like on Facebook action - please make sure that your Facebook page is set to "Fully Public" so that your customers are able to see and like it by clicking through the Smile panel.
