Configure your loyalty program to spend loyalty points on in-store discounts using Shopify POS.

Set up your loyalty program to allow customers to spend loyalty points on in-store purchases.

Add Smile tile to POS grid


The Smile loyalty program tile is required for earning & spending points in POS.

Enable POS points spending


Smile allows you to choose between earning points in-store only, online only, or both. POS features need to be enabled before customers can spend points in store.

  1. From Smile admin, navigate to Settings > General > Platform > Reward Rules.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. Select Online and in-store or In-store only (POS).

  4. Click Save.

Add ways to spend points in store


After enabling in-store loyalty, you need to define how much discount customers earn from their loyalty points.

  1. From Smile Admin, navigate to Program > Points.

  2. Click Add ways to redeem.

  3. Select POS amount discount or POS percentage off.

  4. Configure the points cost and financial value of the discount.

  5. Click Save.

βœ… Tip: You can create multiple rewards to offer your customers a range of discounts at various points costs.

πŸ’‘ Important: Unlike ways to earn, the ways to spend points are scoped to individual sales channels. Online rewards can't be purchased in-store and vice-versa.

Spend points on in-store purchases


After setting up in-store rewards, loyalty discounts can be applied to purchases by the retail staff member.

  1. Add customer to the cart

  2. Add product(s) to the cart

  3. From the POS home, press the loyalty program tile

  4. Press the loyalty discounts tab

  5. Press the discount you want to apply

⚠️ Warning: Spending points on a discount can't be reversed. If the purchase is abandoned or the customer changes their mind, you can manually adjust the customer's points in order to correct their balance:

To perform the adjustment, you can access Smile Admin via the optional Smile "App website" POS tile.
