Points expiry resets a customer’s points balance to zero after a specified period of inactivity. You can turn points expiry on or off, customize the points expiration period, and adjust how far in advance customers are warned about their points expiry.

Configure expiration period
The expiration period determines how long a customer must be inactive before their points expire. To configure the expiration period:
In Smile Admin, navigate to Program > Points.
In the Points expiry section, locate the Expiration period card.
Click Edit.
Select the desired expiration period from the dropdown.
Click Save.
Configure notification thresholds
When a customer's points are about the expire, the notification thresholds determine how far in advance the corresponding customer email is sent.

Points Expiry - Last Chance | Last chance threshold |
To change a notification threshold:
In Smile Admin, navigate to Program > Points.
In the Points expiry section, locate the Warning threshold or Last chance threshold card.
Click Edit.
Enter the number of days in advance you would like the email to be sent.
Click Save.
⚠️ Warning: This setting only has an effect when the corresponding customer email is enabled. If the corresponding customer email is disabled, then no points expiry notifications will be sent.
Enable points expiry
In Smile Admin, navigate to Program > Points.
In the Points expiry section, locate the Points expiry is disabled card.
Click Enable.
✅ Tip: Before enabling points expiry, ensure you've configured the points expiration period and notification thresholds.
Disable points expiry
In Smile Admin, navigate to Program > Points.
In the Points expiry section, locate the Points expiry is enabled card.
Click Disable.
Inside the modal that opened, click Disable points expiry.
ℹ️ Note: Disabling points expiry does not reserve or undo any points that have already expired - it only stops any further points from expiring.
