Smile’s pricing protection helps you avoid unexpected fees during high-sales periods such as Black Friday. This protection works by capping the number of orders that count toward your monthly usage and saving you money. Pricing protection applies to plans with order limits as well as plans with usage-based pricing.
How it works
To determine the maximum number of orders that will count towards your Smile bill during a high-sales period, use this simple formula:
Maximum Orders Counted Towards Usage = Previous Month's Orders x 1.2
This means that even if your store sees a dramatic increase in sales, only orders up to 20% above the previous month’s total will count toward your usage. If you're on a plan with order limits, pricing protection helps ensure that you're not forced to upgrade your plan because of a single-month spike in order volume. If you're on a plan with usage-based pricing, pricing protection ensures you're never surprised by unexpectedly large additional order charges.
✅ Tip: Pricing protection applies year-round, not just on Black Friday. This ensures your business is covered during any high-sales periods.
Example of pricing protection
Let’s say you’re on the Growth plan, which includes 2,500 orders per month. Usually, you get around 2,000 orders every month, but due to a successful Black Friday promotion, your order volume jumps to 3,000 orders.
Normally, going over your plan’s limit would mean extra charges. But with pricing protection, Smile helps you avoid unexpected fees if you have a sudden spike in order volume.
In our example:
• October (Previous Month): You processed 2,000 orders.
• November (Current Month): You processed 3,000 orders.
Using the formula for November's usage:
Maximum Orders Counted Towards Usage = Previous Month’s Orders × 1.2
Maximum Orders Counted Towards Usage = 2,000 × 1.2 = 2,400
Result: Even though you had a busy month with 3,000 orders, only 2,400 orders will be counted towards your usage for the month. This keeps your monthly cost at the usual $199 with no additional fees, even during a high-sales month.
