You can import customer birthdays into Smile by uploading a CSV file directly in the Customers section. This allows you to add birthdays for multiple customers at once, helping you reward them for celebrating their special day. After importing, points are only awarded on birthdays if you have “Celebrate a birthday” activated in your ways to earn points.

Prepare the CSV file

Tip: You can download a sample CSV template to see the required format before you start.
Before importing, make sure your CSV is formatted correctly so birthdays are recognized:
  • Dates must be in YYYY-MM-DD format (e.g., 1990-12-25).
  • Customers already in Smile will be updated — new customers can’t be added with this process.
  • Existing birthdays won’t be overwritten if they’re already saved.
  • Invalid dates or non-existent customers will be skipped.
Note: Smile currently uses only the month and day for birthday rewards. If you don’t have a customer’s birth year, you can use 1004 in the year field.

Upload the CSV file

  1. From Smile Admin, navigate to Customers.
  2. Click Adjust customers > Import birthdays.
  3. Upload your CSV file in the upload window.
  4. Confirm the import.
Important: Only customers already in your store will be updated.
