How to set up a referred friend reward

Introduction

Having your customers refer their friends is a great way to increase traffic to your store. Ensuring that these same customers, both existing and new, are rewarded is supercharging this process and setting it up for success.

Overview

Note: a default Referred Friend reward of $5 is automatically set up upon activating a Smile referral program. To customize your Friend reward, you must first delete the existing Friend reward, then add a new one by clicking the 'change' button for the reward on this page.

What a referred friend reward is

Friend rewards are issued to new customers who receive a referral code from an existing program member.

These rewards can be redeemed on the new customer's first purchase.

To set up your program's Friend reward, select Change in the Referred Friend Reward section of your referral program page.

You then have the choice of any of the following rewards:

  • Fixed amount discount ($ off)

  • Free shipping discount

  • Percentage off discount

  • Free product at checkout (βœ… only available on the Growth plan and above)

πŸ“‹ Note: points can’t be awarded to referral receivers because they are not yet program members. Once they become a program member, they will be able to start earning points.

How to set a referred friend reward

Select the one you'd like by clicking the "Add reward" button next to the corresponding reward.

Fill in the required fields to complete the reward setup. *fields may differ based on the reward selected.


Click Create to activate your reward. Once the reward is created, customers will be able to see it in your customer panel's Referral card.

Note that all email notifications pertaining to your referral program can be found in Smile Admin > Customer emails . On the free plan you can enable or disable the Friend received referral, which is the email sent to the referred friend when they've claimed the reward in your customer panel. With a Smile paid plan, the friend can also be notified through the Referral shared through Smile when a member (Customer Advocate) has shared their referral link with them in your customer Panel.

βœ… This feature is only available on a Smile paid plan.

Additional customization

You can take your Friend reward to the next level by customizing its Display.

This includes:

Reward name

Reward details (shown in the customer panel)

Reward instructions (included in email notification)

Custom reward icon

Once you've saved your desired Display changes, customers will be able to see them in your customer Panel and email notifications after successful referrals.
