Allowing signed-in customers to redeem points at checkout gives them a last-minute incentive to apply a discount to their order. This can help increase engagement and strengthen long-term customer loyalty.
Feature availability: Redeem points at checkout is available on Growth, Plus, and Enterprise plans for merchants on Shopify Plus.
Note: Not on Shopify Plus? You can let customers redeem points in their cart instead. See Redeem points at cart.

Add redeem points to the checkout

  1. From Smile Admin, navigate to On-site content.
  2. In the Redeem at checkout section, click Setup.
  3. In the Quick setup section, click Go to checkout settings.
  4. In the Configurations section, click Customize.
  5. In the Information section, click Add app block.
  6. Search for Smile.
  7. Choose Redeem points.
  8. Click Save.
Note: In the Checkout behavior settings, you can also choose to show the app block in Shop Pay.

Available rewards

Only fixed amount, percentage, free shipping, and free product rewards are supported for redemption at checkout.

What customers see

Signed-in customers see their points balance and the rewards they can redeem. If they don’t have enough points for a reward yet, the extension shows how many more points they need. Customers who aren’t signed in still see the extension. It shows a prompt to log in to claim rewards, with a link to your store’s login page. There’s no setting to hide the extension for these customers. Rewards are listed from the lowest to the highest points cost. If you offer several free product rewards, they’re grouped in a drop-down.

Appearance

Colors, fonts, and button styles are inherited from your Shopify checkout branding settings. Appearance settings for this extension are not available in Smile Admin. To change how the extension looks, update your checkout branding settings in Shopify. The text in the extension can’t be customized. It’s automatically translated to match your checkout’s language. Your points name and reward names are pulled from your Smile program settings.
