Store credit rewards let customers redeem points for Shopify store credit. When a customer redeems a store credit reward, Shopify adds the credit to their customer account. During checkout, Shopify shows customers their available store credit balance and lets them apply it to their order. Any remaining balance can be used on future orders until it is spent or expires.
Feature availability: Store credit rewards are available on Standard, Growth, Plus, and Enterprise plans for Shopify merchants only.

Create a store credit reward

  1. From Smile Admin, go to Points.
  2. Click Add ways to redeem and select Store credit.
  3. Choose a Points redemption style.
  4. Configure the reward settings.
  5. Optional: Under Reward expiry, select Expire issued rewards after an elapsed time and choose how long issued store credit remains valid.
  6. Click Create.
Important: Store credit rewards rely on Shopify’s store credit feature. Shopify store credit must be enabled in your Shopify admin for customers to receive and use store credit rewards.

How it works

Customers can redeem their points for store credit. When a customer redeems a store credit reward:
  1. The required number of points is deducted from their points balance.
  2. Store credit is added to their Shopify store credit balance.
  3. The balance appears in their Shopify customer account.
  4. During checkout, Shopify shows their available store credit balance and lets them apply it to their order.
  5. Any unused balance remains available until it is spent or expires.
Smile records the redemption in the customer’s reward history, but the store credit balance itself is managed by Shopify. Customers can view their store credit balance in their Shopify customer account. You can view a customer’s store credit balance from their customer profile in Shopify Admin.

Reward expiry

If reward expiry is enabled, customers see the expiry date before they complete their redemption. Customers also receive a reminder email before their store credit expires. After the expiry date passes, any unused store credit issued through the reward is no longer available.
